Barbara Michael Collection, # 348, 1984, Baggarra, Western Sudan, 203 pieces, film, field notes, photographs.

This systematic anthropological collection illustrates the Baggarra nomadic household and is based on Dr. Michael's extensive field research among these pastoral nomads in and north of Kadugli, Kordofan Province, Sudan, in the early 1980s. The collection includes food preparation utensils, food stuffs, condiments, containers, utensions; household items, containers, baskets, saddles, clothing, woven mats, coffee and tea preparation and serving utensions, water and milk containers, and worship mats.  The following folder shows and describes these items as prepared by Khalid Alowain's master's project in Museum Studies, as well as the English and Arabic text of  Michael's film "Nomads of the Savanna" with photo illustrations.  Michael's research is reported in her award-winning dissertation Cows, Bulls, and Gender Roles: the Baggarra of Western Kordofan, Sudan. 1987, and numerous published articles.
