This collection of 25 pieces, donated over five years in the 1980s, includes excellent pieces from Kuba of Congo, Bamun of Cameroon, Bambara of Mali, Ashanti of Ghana, Ekoi, Yoruba, and Igbo of Nigeria, and Dan of Liberia.

(Cameroon) This mask is carved from a single piece of olase brown wood and is in the form of an animal head with a large mouth and very prominent ears. There is white paint in the ears, mouth, nostrils and eyes.

(19th Century Ghana) This object is of orange red pottery in the form of a human head and neck. It is of Ashante/Akan style. The mouth and eyes are made of beads. The smooth surface gives the piece a brown varnished appearance.

Drinking Horn

(Bamum people, Cameroon) Carved buffalo horn with brass finial head with flattened conical hat attached to small end coil of fine wire.

Many decorations incised around the middle portion of the horn. There are two large and three small lizards and five smaller frogs incised around flaring edge.
