
Appointment:
Dr. Omar has been an Assistant Professor of Arabic at KU since 2000, Director of the Arabic Summer Institute in affiliation with Al-Akhawayn University in Morocco since 2002, and Language Coordinator since 2003.
Main Areas of Interest:
Dr. Omar's research interests are in Language Change and Language Variation in the Arab World, Arabic Diglossic Switching in Political Discourse and in the Media, Language Ideology and Linguistic Choices in Political Discourse in Tunisia, Teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language, and Impact of New Technology on Teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language
Languages:
Dr. Omar is a native speaker of Tunisian Arabic, and is fluent in Classical Arabic/Modern Standard Arabic and French.
