Chinekwu Obidoa, University of Connecticut
Impact of globalization on African Women
Chinekwu A. Obidoa is a PhD candidate in public health, concentrating on social and behavioral health at the University of Connecticut. She is an alumnus of the University of Nigeria Nsukka (2000) and holds a Masters degree in Public Health. She also holds Masters Degrees in Geography and International Studies.
Her research interests span across several disciplines and includes the social aspects of HIV/AIDS in Africa, gender and development in Africa, disease mapping with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and the impact of globalization on Africa.
Nyankomo Wambura Marwa, University of Nebraska, Lincoln
Nyankomo Marwa is a Fulbright Doctoral Candidate in Agricultural Economics at University of Nebraska Lincoln. His research interest is on Applied Statistics and Econometrics, Industrial Organization and International Economic. He is a tenured faculty at the Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness of Sokoine University of Agriculture. In this capacity he is responsible for teaching applied statistics and economics for both undergraduate and graduate students, conducting socio economic research and consultancy.
Prior to joining academia, he was a Supervisor of National Bureau of Identification (Forensic Bureau) in Tanzania from 1999 through 2006. While there he was responsible for managing and supervising more than 60 forensic scientists and detective officers, conducting on job training. He was involved in the administration practice duties including scheduling staff, technical training, recruiting.
He has experience on teaching, research, live stock production, agricultural and grain marketing and small business management.
Marwa graduated from Hasselt University in 2006 with masters in applied statistics and Biostatistics. He also holds BSc. in Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness from Sokoine University, Tanzania. He is a member of the African Econometric society, American Agricultural Economics Society, African Agricultural Economics Society.
A native of Musoma along lake Victoria (the home of the first of late Julius Nyerere, the first president of Tanzania) Marwa is married to Lilian Waryoba a lawyer by training and they are blessed with two lovely kids, Joyce and Emmanuel.
Mary Orieji Mba, University of Kansas, Lawrence
Mary Orieji Mba is a PhD candidate in the Department of French and Italian here at the University of Kansas. She is interested in the representation of Women in Francophone French Literature, mostly in literary works authored by women.
Brett Craig, University of Kansas
Brett Craig is a PhD student at the University of Kansas. He is in the Communication Studies discipline with an emphasis in Intercultural and Development Communication. His particular interests include meanings and implementations of participatory development, the role of language in society, and the importance of communication in the development process.
