Conference highlights:


· Keynote speech by Dr. Susan Rice of the Brookings Institution (Friday afternoon)


· Viewing of "Hotel Rwanda" followed by panel discussion (Friday evening)


· Special event: "Celebrate Africa!"music and dance performances (Saturday evening)


· Break-out sessions all day Friday and Saturday

Meeting location: Springfield, the "Queen City of the Ozarks", is easy to reach by car via US I-44. There are direct flights from Chicago, Cincinnati, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Kansas City, Memphis, Minneapolis, and St. Louis. The conference will be held on the third floor of SMSU's new Plaster Student Union.


Lodging: Rooms are available for the discounted rate of $42/night ($47.16 including tax) at the newly refurbished Best Western Route 66 Rail Haven, just one mile from campus. The motel features a free contintental breakfast, free internet, and swimming pool. When reserving a room, mention MAAAS for the special rate. Registration: Up to August 1, registration for the conference is $30 for faculty, $10 for students and independent scholars. After August 1, registration is $40 for faculty and $20 for students and independent scholars. Registration includes Friday dinner. Print and send in the registration form along with registration and membership fees.


MAAAS Membership: All conference presenters and participants must pay both MAAAS membership fees and registration fees. MAAAS membership fees are $20 for affiliated faculty, $10 for students & independent scholars, and $30 for institutional membership.
