African Studies Core Courses are offered by many departments in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences and in Professional Schools. To check availability of these courses for the next semester, please see the KU Online Timetable of Classes. Many courses listed here may be offered only once a year or less frequently.
A listing for Fall 2009 will be coming soon!
KASC identifies courses by one, two, or more numbers, which is typical for interdisciplinary subject areas. The student may enroll in any one of these course numbers. Additional information about cross-listed courses may be available from the other listing department, as well. We cannot be certain that all courses that happen to be cross-listed are shown as such below, so please contact us at (785)864-3745 to check on the status of an individual course.
The listing below may not be exhaustive, although the KASC and the AAAS strive
to identify all Africa-related courses across the university. Faculty in departments
and schools sometimes offer seminars, courses and tutorials on a one-time basis, on special topics of interest to them.
To know for sure what will be offered, students may want to contact Africanist members of the faculty from our list on the Faculty link. They will be happy to discuss their planned course offerings for the next several semesters with you.
Notice: The names in parentheses after certain courses indicate the particular professor who teaches the course with African focus. Other instructors may not focus on Africa, and therefore the course would not count as an African Studies Core Course. Please check with us to find out if a course taught by a different instructor than the one listed will qualify. If no name is listed, the course is always taught with an African focus.
