These exquisite Ndebele blankets,
skirts, bracelets, and ribbons were purchased from Ndebele women
at a benefit auction held by the South African Institute of Race
Relations in 1982 to pay for lawyers to defend in court, the right
of the Ndebele of Transvaal to remain on their ancestral lands
and not be "removed" as a "black spot" under
Apartheid policy.
